About the Role

This role offers the opportunity to gain expertise and skills in design development for transport infrastructure, balancing work-life balance and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of design development across the project, providing strategic oversight, expert advice, and governance for architecture, urban design, engineering, landscape, and technical design disciplines.
  • Prepare, manage, and review project designs, ensuring high quality, alignment with Sydney Metro requirements, customer and transport product requirements, integration with other transport modes, and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Lead the management and delivery of design activities across Metro assets, corridors, and precincts.
  • Ensure design outcomes contribute to a safe, functional, sustainable, and integrated transport network.
  • Provide strategic design leadership and governance across stations, corridors and precincts by reviewing, advising, challenging and assuring design outcomes.
  • Drive fit-for-purpose, compliant and future-ready design solutions by ensuring all designs meet planning, statutory, legislative, operational, accessibility and engineering requirements.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design excellence and technical assurance by providing specialist expertise across architecture, urban design, industrial design, engineering and land use planning.
  • Champion integrated place-based planning and network outcomes by ensuring transport infrastructure aligns with existing and future land use, adjoining developments, interchange requirements and urban design principles.
  • Promote innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement by identifying and embedding best-practice design and master-planning principles, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, and facilitating knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of project and business activities within a complex, evolving infrastructure and construction environment.
  • Ability to navigate sensitivities of operating within a government service setting.
  • Ensure all activities are underpinned by best practice, robust governance and sound decision-making.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of design and compliance, current and emerging policy, regulatory requirements, industry trends and Transport for NSW standards.
  • Apply insight to support project outcomes and organisational objectives.
  • Proactively escalate and manage issues, provide strategic advice, deliver timely updates on key projects and priorities, and contribute to planning, policy development and informed decision-making.
  • Leverage demonstrated experience in risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to interpret complex and sensitive information.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and make balanced, evidence-based decisions that support successful project delivery.
