About the Role

This role provides senior technical leadership in corporate tax compliance and advisory for AMP's tax consolidated group and financial services operations. It drives high-quality outcomes in a complex regulatory environment, supports the modernization of tax processes, and contributes to the Group’s tax risk governance framework. The role is integral to maintaining Justified Trust with the ATO, managing international tax obligations, and supporting Board and Audit Committee reporting on tax risk and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead AMP’s corporate tax obligations, including domestic and international income tax compliance, tax consolidated group matters, franking credits and key international tax requirements such as transfer pricing, CFC analysis, country-by-country reporting, public CbCR, and Pillar Two compliance.
  • Partner with the Head of Tax on strategic transactions and corporate activity, providing technical leadership across M&A, restructures, due diligence, tax modelling and structuring, while managing specialist advisers and assessing impacts on tax compliance, tax accounting and tax risk.
  • Provide commercially focused tax advice to Treasury, Legal, Strategy, Finance and Business Unit stakeholders, supporting investments, product initiatives, commercial decisions and business transformation activities.
  • Strengthen AMP’s tax governance and risk framework through tax reviews, regulatory engagement and risk management activities, while partnering with Finance, Legal, Treasury and business teams on complex transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the tax function, enhancing processes, controls and technology, while preparing high-quality technical papers, briefings and recommendations for senior leadership, the Audit Committee and the Board.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8-10 years' post-qualification corporate or financial services tax experience, with deep expertise in international tax and tax advisory matters.
  • Experience gained within banking, financial services, ASX-listed organisations and/or Big 4 professional services environments.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Tax, Commerce and/or Accounting, ideally complemented by a postgraduate tax qualification and professional certification such as CTA, CA or CPA.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Australian income tax law, including corporate tax, international tax, and banking and financial services taxation.
  • Exposure to NZ, US and/or Luxembourg tax regimes would be advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative and financial accounting capabilities, including financial modelling, reconciliations and technical tax analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with, or strong interest in leveraging, AI technologies to enhance tax processes, compliance, research and analytics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English language skills, with the ability to translate complex tax and technical concepts into clear, practical advice for senior executives, Boards and regulators.
  • Proven ability to provide commercially focused tax advice and apply sound judgement to complex business and regulatory matters.
  • Experience using financial and tax technology platforms such as CCH Tax Integrator, Thomson Reuters solutions (including OneSource), or similar tools, together with Power BI, would be well regarded.
  • Qualifications in Economics, Mathematics or Finance, and admission as a legal practitioner in an Australian jurisdiction, would also be advantageous but are not essential.
  • Deep expertise in Australian corporate income tax law, international tax (including transfer pricing, CFC rules under Part X ITAA 1936 and Pillar Two), and banking and financial services taxation.
  • Strong understanding of ATO administrative practices, including Justified Trust, Combined Assurance Reviews and the Reportable Tax Position framework, with the ability to develop robust, audit-ready technical advice on complex tax matters.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, collaboration and influencing skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across Finance, Legal, Treasury and business teams.
  • Ability to operate with autonomy, integrity and sound judgement, managing sensitive matters and providing pragmatic guidance in a complex regulatory environment.
