About the Role

The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers to leverage the latest technologies and solve their toughest challenges. We collaborate with customer engineers to develop cloud-based solutions, working with product teams, partners, and open-source communities. This role involves developing broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets. We are hiring a Senior Data Scientist to drive high-impact engineering projects with customers, transforming their missions using AI and cloud solutions. Data scientists on our team possess data management expertise and develop statistical techniques to analyze data and identify patterns. You will be part of a cross-functional team working with strategic customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions, thriving with diverse technologies and contributing to open source.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire data necessary for project plans and develop usable datasets for modeling.
  • Update internal best practices for data collection and preparation.
  • Contribute to data integrity conversations with customers.
  • Evaluate team models and recommend improvements.
  • Drive best practices for models and develop operational models that run at scale.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of data analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Identify and invent new evaluation methods.
  • Research and maintain deep knowledge of industry trends and technologies.
  • Identify strategy opportunities and contribute to thought leadership best practices.
  • Write extensible code that spans multiple features.
  • Develop expertise in proper debugging techniques.
  • Define business, customer, and solution strategy goals.
  • Partner with other teams to identify and explore new opportunities.
  • Apply a customer-oriented focus to understand needs.
  • Help drive realistic customer expectations.
  • Embody our culture and values.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft is unable to sponsor a work visa for this role due to the nature of the role’s job duties.

  • 2+ years customer-facing, project-delivery experience, professional services, and/or consulting experience.
