About the Role
Microsoft Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) has an opening for a corporate and government affairs professional to support innovation, drive the diffusion of artificial intelligence, and build trust with key external stakeholders. This role involves leading the CELA Europe North/Netherlands team, providing government affairs and public policy advice, partnering with the business to achieve objectives, and supporting public policy goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, coach, and develop a team of government affairs specialists and business professionals.
- Oversee and orchestrate a community of CELA professionals focused on Europe North/Netherlands.
- Support innovation, drive AI diffusion, and build trust with external stakeholders.
- Accelerate customer cloud adoption and AI solution implementation.
- Position Microsoft as a trusted, responsible, and inclusive cloud and AI services provider.
- Promote an enabling public policy environment in Europe North/Netherlands and the EU.
- Develop and execute public affairs and external communications strategies.
- Create and drive high-impact campaigns to connect with external stakeholders.
- Influence public policy debates and outcomes.
- Build trust with larger communities served in Europe North/Netherlands.
- Coordinate legal services support for regional sales teams.
- Blend corporate affairs, public policy guidance, and business insights for creative solutions.
- Support the digital transformation of existing and new customers.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and counselor to the Europe North/Netherlands Corporate Vice President and leadership team.
- Act as a member of the MCAPS Europe North/Netherlands business leadership team.
- Serve as the CELA representative on the Europe North/Netherlands MCAPS Compliance Committee.
- Ensure the MCAPS business operates with trust, complies with law, and adheres to company policies.
- Contribute positively and actively to the CELA EMEA Leadership team.
- Participate in setting strategy, tactics, and commitments for company and department goals.
- Manage the CELA Europe North/Netherlands budget.
- Drive synergies in management and retention of strategic advisors, outside counsel, and vendors.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in government affairs, public policy, regulatory affairs, legal, or related disciplines.
- Extensive corporate and field-based leadership experience.
- Executive presence and trusted advisor capability.
- Proven track record of supporting and influencing executives on complex business, policy, and regulatory matters.
- Extensive experience managing complex government affairs, regulatory, public policy, or legal issues.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, assess risk, and make sound decisions in fast-paced, matrixed environments.
- People leadership experience, including leading, coaching, developing, and motivating high-performing teams.
- Demonstrable communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategy execution skills.
- Experience representing an organization externally.
- Experience building senior-level relationships.
- Experience leading advocacy or stakeholder engagement strategies involving multiple stakeholders.
- Fluency in one or more languages spoken across the Europe North/Netherlands region.
- Experience leading government affairs, public policy, or public affairs activities across multiple European markets.
- Demonstrated success advancing organizational positions through high-impact engagement with government, regulatory, industry, and business leaders.
- Proven experience designing and executing large-scale advocacy campaigns and long-term policy strategies.
- Experience supporting technology, innovation, or other highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrates a growth mindset, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environments while balancing strategic thinking with pragmatic execution.
