About the Role
The Surgical Center Nurse is responsible for all nursing care and activities, ensuring the highest quality patient care. This position will train to perform all functions as needed during the pre-operative, surgical and post-operative phases of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provides emotional support to the patient during the pre-operative, operative and post-operative stages.
- Performs all pre-operative and post-operative required activities to ensure coordinated surgical procedures and quality patient care.
- Completes patient pre-operative assessment and documents according to policy.
- Performs all operative activities including checking room supplies, assisting the surgical technician, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, surgical counts, patient transport, and report hand-off to the recovery team.
- Receives patients from the operating room with a report of pertinent history and procedure.
- Assesses the patient upon transfer from the post-anesthesia recovery room and documents the assessment.
- Monitors patients for condition changes and reports any changes to the physician.
- Reviews physician’s discharge instructions with the patient and/or family and answers questions.
- Assists in preparing the patient for discharge from the Center to ensure continuity of nursing care.
- Follows proper infection control and safety precautions in the performance of all duties.
Requirements
- 2+ years clinical nursing experience required.
- Available to work 2 weekend shifts a month and one holiday a year.
Skills
- Proficient in nursing assessment.
- Proficient in intravenous therapy.
- Proficient in computer programs including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
