About the Role

NORR is seeking a Studio Manager to oversee the business success of the Transportation studio. This role involves managing staffing, reviewing project work for technical excellence, and contributing to the office's annual operating budget. The Studio Manager will lead by example, provide mentorship, and handle administrative and HR duties, while also participating in billable project activities as needed.

Responsibilities

• Manage staffing levels to ensure resources are available for projects.
• Review project work for technical excellence, on-time delivery, and financial success.
• Contribute to the office's annual operating budget based on studio revenue forecasts and growth objectives.
• Report on studio results to senior management and make necessary adjustments.
• Lead by example, provide mentorship to staff, and perform administrative and HR duties.
• Participate in billable project activities where required.
• Participate in business development through personal and new client contacts.
• Monitor client service levels and make changes to ensure exemplary delivery.
• Lead planning and scheduling of all studio projects.
• Assist in determining project budgets, work plans, and deliverables.
• Participate in monthly project reviews to analyze performance, profitability, and risk.
• Liaise with stakeholders to determine project criteria and deliver presentations.
• Share expert knowledge of current design techniques, building systems, code analysis, and construction methodologies.
• Routinely review work for conformance to design, technical, and quality requirements.
• Develop, implement, and manage an annual operating plan for the studio.
• Balance project workloads with requirements to ensure the financial health of the studio.
• Oversee workloads and provide staff supervision.
• Review safety requirements for field work and ensure staff training.
• Take responsibility for succession planning within the studio.
• Conduct annual bonus and salary reviews for direct reports.
• Analyze and recommend staff within the studio for promotions.
• Encourage productivity, innovation, teamwork, and professionalism within the discipline.

Requirements

• Have successfully completed related post-secondary education.
• Knowledge in Architectural design and presentation.
• Knowledge in intermediate M&E, structural building systems, permit and building codes.
• Technically advanced in architectural or engineering systems and design.
• Registered with a relevant professional architectural association is an asset.
• 10+ years of prior experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
• Experience managing architectural staff.
