About the Role

The Licensed Practical Nurse promotes the health and wellness of clients at Living Hope Detox, providing care in accordance with regulating bodies. Duties include nursing assessments, managing schedules, administering medications, and documenting patient information.

Responsibilities

• Actively and compassionately interacts with patients to encourage engagement in treatment after completion of detoxification.
• Administers medications, treatments, inoculations, and tests as allowed by law.
• Implements verbal physician orders and authenticates in writing, within a reasonable time, in the patient record.
• Maintains a safe environment applying principles of medical asepsis and applying infection control techniques and universal precautions.
• Accurately obtains vital signs and health monitoring data.
• Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, including transcribing and administering routine and prescribed medications in accordance with procedures established by the Medical Director and Nursing Supervisor.
• Records patient observations and activities in patient records accurately and timely in accordance with nursing standards and organizational policy and procedure.
• Screens and provides first response, including obtaining health history.
• Performs CLIA waivered tests according to regulations.
• Accurately documents nursing data in an electronic clinical record.
• Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and/or records.
• Demonstrates, promotes and practices cultural competency toward clients, families and staff.
• Exercises full compliance with the Justice Center’s Code of Conduct for People with Special Needs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Software such as Word, Excellus, Outlook, etc.
• Effectively communicates with a multidisciplinary team.
• Exercises full compliance with Agency Code of Conduct, all Agency policies and procedures and Federal and State laws and regulations.
• Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Follows all policies and procedures with regard to patient information protection, including alcohol-drug patient confidentiality (42 CFR) and HIPAA (45 CFR).
• Attends training on chemical dependency as required by employer.
• Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable clinical procedures and nursing care based on company policy and State and Federal guidelines.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• NYS LPN licensure
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure in New York State as Licensed Practical Nurse.
• 1 year post-licensure preferably with psychiatric mental health or substance use patients, preferably in an acute setting.
• Maintain a valid New York State Driver’s license at all times.

Skills

• Experience with electronic medical record documentation and all basic nursing skills within the scope of a licensed practical nurse.
• Able to read, analyze, and interpret policies and directions and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with chemically dependent individuals non-judgmentally and with caring and compassion.
• Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff as well as with referral sources.
• Ability to read, analyze, interpret and evaluate information presented in research reports, professional publications, referral documents and similar materials.
• Ability to write clearly and cohesively and to present information effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions from a wide variety of data and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, writing, carrying and climbing stairs.
• Employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and be able to assist an adult weighing 100-200 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Employee may be required to move chairs, beds, and medical equipment, move patients in bed (with or without assistance) and to change bed linens, help clients from floor to chair or bed, and assist with bathing.

Salary/Compensations

• $23-$27/hour commensurate with education and experience
