About the Role

APNews.com is seeking a Director to serve as the second-in-command for audience execution across social platforms, video, and digital presentation. This senior newsroom leadership role focuses on translating strategy into daily output, identifying new ways to grow audience and revenue, and overseeing social platforms, video, and digital design.

Responsibilities

  • Own execution across key audience surfaces.
  • Translate audience strategy into daily output across social platforms, video, and presentation, ensuring consistency in tone, quality, and performance.
  • Lead three core teams: Social platforms, Video (on-platform and on-site), and Digital design and presentation.
  • Identify and develop revenue opportunities by working with product and revenue teams to translate audience growth into revenue.
  • Develop creator strategy and partnerships to expand AP’s reach and storytelling.
  • Drive performance and accountability by setting clear expectations tied to audience KPIs and adjusting quickly when performance lags.
  • Establish repeatable workflows to allow teams to operate with speed and clarity across time zones.
  • Partner across the newsroom with editors, product, analytics, and revenue teams to align coverage with audience opportunity and business goals.
  • Develop talent and strengthen teams by coaching team leads, identifying gaps, and building a culture of ownership and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong newsroom leadership experience across audience, video, or digital formats.
  • A track record of turning strategy into execution at scale.
  • Experience identifying audience-driven revenue opportunities.
  • Understanding of creator ecosystems and platform dynamics.
  • Experience managing multiple teams with different skill sets.
  • Ability to use data to guide decisions while maintaining editorial judgment.
  • Clear communication style and strong decision-making instincts.
  • Experience leading social video strategy for a major publisher.
  • Background in visual storytelling or digital presentation.
  • Experience working in a global, 24/7 newsroom environment.
