About the Role

Under direct supervision, this position inspects, estimates, negotiates, and evaluates auto physical damage claims for both personal and business insurance. The role focuses on basic to moderate physical damage coverages, excluding claims involving injuries, fire, theft, flood, or diminished value. This position also handles complete claim handling for a subset of claims and serves as a technical resource for inside auto claim staff.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistent service quality throughout the claim life cycle, including prompt contact, process explanation, expectation setting, effective communication, and follow-through.
  • Review physical damage documents for appropriateness and identify loss economic opportunities.
  • Negotiate with repair facilities on revisions to physical damage documents.
  • Prepare and document accurate vehicle/equipment damage appraisals, Actual Cash and Replacement values according to guidelines.
  • Electronically audit vehicle estimates using technical expertise and company-recognized resources, estimating and evaluation software.
  • Negotiate claim settlements with customers and/or repair facilities to achieve agreement on value and initiate payments.
  • Determine settlement amounts for applicable Total Loss claims, including coverages and deductibles.
  • Partner with the assigned Claim Professional throughout the claim life cycle, from investigation to final recovery.
  • Effectively manage work assignments and referrals.
  • Acquire and maintain Insurance License(s) as required by state and Travelers.
  • Participate in the Catastrophe Response Program, potentially involving deployment to assist customers in other states.
  • Perform duties of an Outside Field Appraiser temporarily, as needed, including physical vehicle inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with an insurance carrier is a plus.
  • Strong technical background with extensive knowledge of auto repair and repair techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of auto terminology and construction.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Thorough knowledge of claims appraisal systems and overall claim operations.
  • Proficiency in Windows, including Excel and Word.
  • Strong mathematical and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer-centric response.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain current on jurisdictional laws and regulations and communicate compliance requirements.
  • Commitment to continuous education.
  • High School Degree or GED.
  • One year experience estimating auto damage or successful completion of the Appraiser trainee program.
