About the Role

Flair Airlines is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a cross-functional team in the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-quality applications across web, mobile, and backend platforms. This role is crucial for driving execution and ensuring engineering teams consistently deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing solutions that align with business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team of software engineers across frontend, backend, and mobile application development.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of software features and systems, ensuring solutions are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for engineering execution by overseeing delivery plans and monitoring progress.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, delivery tracking, and resource planning.
  • Identify, communicate, and remove technical and operational blockers, while proactively managing risks and dependencies.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across frontend (Next.js, React), mobile (Flutter), and backend (Python, .NET APIs) applications.
  • Promote and enforce engineering best practices for code quality, testing, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Partner closely with architecture leadership to ensure engineering implementation aligns with approved technical designs and standards.
  • Collaborate with Technical Product Managers and Product Managers to ensure requirements are clearly defined and prioritized.
  • Provide early feedback on proposed solutions and requirements, identifying gaps, risks, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate testing strategies are implemented throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Support production stability by overseeing incident resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing development workflows and encouraging the adoption of modern practices.
  • Champion the adoption of CI/CD pipelines, automation, DevOps practices, and engineering tools.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve key engineering delivery metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Build a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, continuous learning, and accountability by mentoring engineers and supporting professional development.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.

  • Strong technical understanding of modern web, mobile, and backend application architectures.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams.

Experience Level

  • Minimum of four (4) to seven (7) years of progressive software engineering experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience leading, mentoring, or coaching software engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience developing and supporting applications using modern frontend frameworks such as React and Next.js.
  • Experience designing and developing backend services and APIs using Python and/or .NET technologies.
  • Experience working with mobile application development concepts, preferably using Flutter or similar frameworks.
  • Experience delivering software solutions within Agile development environments.

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
