About the Role
Texas Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician (IV Admixture) to support the Lakeway location and travel to other Austin sites on Fridays. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with no weekend, call, or major holiday work. The role can be filled at Level 1, 2, or Sr based on the candidate's experience.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
- Checks all orders for completeness of information, verifying patient information and proper physician authorization.
- Admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA and interoffice guidelines.
- Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
- Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintaining records.
- Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
- Assists in cleaning hoods daily and checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities.
- Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
- Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
- Provides support with inventory control of medications.
- Prepares labels.
- Files and prepares billing.
- Performs basic data entry into department automation.
- Orders medication and supplies as directed.
- Assists with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy (Level 1).
- Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (Level 2).
- Minimum five to seven years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills (Level Sr).
- Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience (Level Sr).
- Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Ability to read and note appropriate measurements.
- Ability to sit/stand for extensive periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
