About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Law Clerk to join our Toronto office, supporting our Wills and Estates practice. This role offers a boutique office environment and the opportunity to work with a business-focused clientele.
Responsibilities
- Open, close, and bill all files.
- Manage calendars for intake calls, conferences, and general meetings.
- Liaise directly with clients for estate planning and wills information.
- Prepare first drafts of estate planning documents for Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
- Revise estate planning documents based on client instructions.
- Prepare and witness Will signings.
- Scan, save, and provide copies of executed documents.
- Prepare reporting letters and handle post-execution matters.
- Maintain digital files of lawyer emails and client files.
- Correspond with banks and institutions to gather information for estate administration.
- Prepare probate applications.
- Prepare various documents for estate administration (releases, consents, indemnities, etc.).
- Maintain organized client files electronically and in hard copy.
- Update and maintain inventory of Wills vault.
- Assist with creating precedents for estate planning documents and estate administration checklists.
- Assist with overflow clerk work for other practice areas.
- Manage Toronto office administrative duties.
Requirements
- Law Clerk certification from a recognized college or university.
- 5 – 7 years of experience in Wills and Estates preferred.
- Team player, able to build a positive rapport with other staff and lawyers both in-person and remotely.
- Superior communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and reading comprehension.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive, reliable, independent, and detail-oriented.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
- Ability to work well under pressure, meet unexpected and sometimes competing deadlines, and exhibit sound judgment.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Preference for candidates with knowledge of Clio and NetDocs.
