About the Role
Beefbar is seeking a knowledgeable, passionate, and service-driven Chief Sommelier to help lead and elevate an exceptional wine program within a luxury fine dining environment. This role will work closely with the Beverage Director to curate a world-class wine experience while providing expert guidance and hospitality to guests.
Responsibilities
- Curate and manage an extensive and diverse wine list that complements the culinary program.
- Provide personalized wine recommendations and pairing suggestions to guests.
- Oversee wine inventory, including purchasing, receiving, stock control, and cellar management.
- Maintain proper storage conditions to ensure product quality and integrity.
- Train and educate service staff on wine knowledge, pairing principles, tasting notes, and service standards.
- Develop and maintain wine service SOPs and training materials.
- Organize and host wine tastings, educational seminars, pairing dinners, and special events.
- Collaborate with culinary and beverage leadership on menu pairings and seasonal offerings.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the responsible service of alcohol.
- Maintain a strong and visible presence on the dining room floor to support guests and team members.
Requirements
- 3–4 years of experience as a Lead Sommelier or Sommelier in progressive fine dining environments.
- Extensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties, producers, vintages, and service standards.
- WSET Level III, Certified Sommelier, or equivalent certification required.
- Michelin-starred or high-volume luxury dining experience strongly preferred.
- Exceptional guest service and hospitality skills.
- Strong communication, leadership, and team-development abilities.
- Excellent organizational and inventory management skills.
- Passion for wine education and continual professional growth.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to safely handle wine bottles, glassware, and service equipment.
