About the Role

Sofar Ocean is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician to join their production team. This role involves assembling and testing Sofar’s smart buoys and sensing platform systems, directly impacting ocean health and working with passionate colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and test electromechanical assemblies per work instructions, engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOM).
• Perform in-process inspection on box builds, sub-assemblies, PCBAs, and cables to verify quality.
• Support production schedules by completing builds on time and communicating blockers.
• Identify defects, workmanship issues, or missing components and escalate appropriately.
• Utilize Sofar’s traceability database to enter assembly and testing data.
• Support NPI builds and other engineering activities including mechanical modifications and rework.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and basic production equipment safely and effectively.
• Meet daily production quality and productivity targets.
• Gather parts, sub-assemblies, tools, and materials required for specific work orders.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment according to OSHA and as instructed by the manager to comply with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Perform cross training for other production competencies as requested by the company.
• Quickly adapt to new projects, and complete tasks within a set time frame.

Requirements

• Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience building electro-mechanical hardware.
• Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.
• High proficiency and understanding using power tools and other assembly equipment.
• Attention to details.
• Ability to lift 40+ pounds on a regular basis and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to operate standard production equipment and assembly tools.
• Ability to climb stairs.
