About the Role
The Director, Program and Delivery Management leads the team responsible for how Mimecast’s Product and R&D organization plans, executes, and delivers programs from initial goals to customer impact. This role owns the program and delivery management discipline, setting standards, systems, and operating models for consistent and confident delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and retain a team of Program and Delivery Managers embedded with Product and R&D leadership.
- Set performance standards for planning ownership, delivery partnership, and problem-solving, coaching the team to meet them.
- Monitor team health, pace, process overhead, and retention risk, addressing issues proactively.
- Champion lightweight processes and retire ineffective ceremonies.
- Partner with leadership to evolve the function's structure, scope, and skills to meet Mimecast's scaling needs.
- Shape and evolve the planning system, including frameworks, cadences, and standards for prioritization, resourcing, sequencing, and commitment.
- Maintain a portfolio-level view of commitments, capacity, and delivery confidence for leadership.
- Act as an escalation point for cross-portfolio dependencies, trade-offs, and resourcing conflicts, providing recommended solutions.
- Define and maintain the delivery operating rhythm, including cadences, forums, and reporting structures.
- Ensure consistent program reviews, proactive risk and dependency management, and blocker resolution.
- Build and maintain a governance model for accountability, visible priorities, clear ownership, and timely escalation.
- Manage programs through their full lifecycle, from requirements gathering to customer delivery, ensuring visibility of dependencies and ownership of handoffs.
- Define the AI strategy for program and delivery management, identifying opportunities for AI tool integration and creating an actionable roadmap.
- Keep the team current with evolving AI tools, fostering shared learning and experimentation.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI to reduce manual overhead and increase delivery velocity.
- Own the metrics strategy, defining what gets measured, how, and how delivery-flow data drives decisions.
- Build and maintain executive-facing reporting on portfolio health, tailored for technical and executive audiences.
- Identify patterns of friction, misalignment, and inefficiency across the portfolio and drive improvement programs.
- Lead the evolution of shared delivery practices, such as planning standards and estimation norms.
Requirements
- Experience building and leading high-performing program management teams in complex, fast-moving product organizations.
- Proven ability to design systems for predictable delivery and drive change in organizations.
- 7+ years in Technical Program Management, Delivery Management, or Engineering Program Management.
- 4+ years leading a team of program managers within a multi-team Product and R&D organization.
- Track record of designing and owning planning and delivery systems at scale, accountable for output quality and reliability.
- Executive presence and communication skills, effective with technical leads and executive briefings.
- Ability to influence without authority across functions and levels.
- Proven ability to drive change in complex, matrixed organizations, building alignment around new ways of working.
- Strategic clarity to oversee a portfolio and operational depth to manage details.
- Analytical capability to build metrics frameworks, interpret data, and construct narratives for leadership decisions.
- Fluency in agile delivery practices.
- Hands-on experience with delivery tooling (Jira, Confluence, or equivalents).
- Experience leading program managers across multiple geographies and time zones.
- Genuine interest in AI tools for program and delivery management and drive to lead adoption.
- High ownership and a team-first mindset, bringing problems with solutions and developing others.
