About the Role

Seeking a Human Resources Advisor to support designated client groups by delivering expert and strategically driven HR advice in a unionized, public-sector environment. This role offers exposure to employee relations, labour relations, talent acquisition, and HR operations, with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting employees and leaders while ensuring compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing expert advice and guidance on complex HR matters.
  • Support the Sr. HRBP by conducting in-depth consultations with clients, offering strategic solutions and navigating them through intricate HR challenges.
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise and foster client empowerment on HR best practices, compliance, and relevant legislative updates.
  • Lead and facilitate high-level client meetings, offering insights, recommendations, and strategic direction.
  • Take ownership of complex HR cases, managing them through to resolution while building strong client relationships.
  • Stay abreast of Employment Standards Act (ESA) requirements, industry trends, legal developments, and best practices in HR and employment legislation.
  • Adhere to internal protocols and procedures for managing and escalating cases.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of HR policies, programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to assigned HR functions.
  • Create and coordinate internal communications to support HR programs and initiatives.
  • Provide general HR support and administration across multiple functional areas.
  • Monitor and ensure job descriptions are current, accurately filed, and maintained.
  • Respond to inquiries related to collective agreements, HR policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Work directly with hiring managers to deliver full-cycle recruitment for positions up to Senior Manager level, with back-up support for Director-level roles.
  • Ensure all recruitment activities comply with collective agreement provisions, HR policies, and applicable legislation.
  • Develop and maintain talent pipelines to support current and future recruitment needs.
  • Support the People Services Lead in the development and execution of the organization’s recruitment strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DI&A) team to adopt and embed inclusive recruitment practices.
  • Work with internal partners to ensure the HRIS supports efficient and effective talent acquisition processes.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive human resources experience.
  • High volume full cycle recruitment (technical and non-technical roles).
  • HR operations and administration experience.
  • Labour relations experience in a unionized environment.
  • Exposure to Total Rewards and HRIS.
  • Demonstrated experience administering and interpreting a collective agreement.
  • Experience using Applicant Tracking Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of employment and labour legislation, including ESA, AODA, OHS, and the Human Rights Code.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective decision-making skills.
  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Knowledge of conflict management principles and practices.
  • A self-starter with an enthusiasm for exceptional service delivery.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Subject to a criminal background check.
