About the Role

As an Internal Patient Transporter, you will be a non-clinical associate responsible for providing exceptional hospitality services in an attentive, friendly, and efficient manner to all patients during their entire stay. Your role involves the transport of patients within the hospital environment by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, ensuring their comfort, safety, and privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a pleasant, friendly, and professional demeanor with all patients, location staff, and co-workers.
  • Acknowledge and greet patients within 30 seconds.
  • Explain all procedures to the patient prior to beginning transport.
  • Collect transport equipment and return it to the appropriate storage area.
  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy at all times.
  • Communicate patient needs to clinical staff upon arrival to the designated area.
  • Communicate patient arrival and/or departure to appropriate clinical staff.
  • Perform a physical handoff with receiving clinical staff.
  • Confirm patient identity in accordance with written standards before transporting patient.
  • Ensure patients are not left unattended while in the care of the transporter.
  • Transport and secure medical charts when conducting patient transports.
  • Utilize proper safe patient handling techniques.
  • Escort visitors as needed between departments and provide wayfinding services.
  • Demonstrate proper use of the patient transport tracking system/log sheets.
  • Provide oxygen tanks on transport equipment as requested.
  • Be familiar with hospital emergency codes and procedures.
  • Maintain accuracy and composure while under pressure.
  • Use appropriate salutation of the day and proper phone etiquette.
  • Post up in appropriate areas when not completing tasks.
  • Conduct an effective and efficient room presentation.
  • Possess knowledge of all hotel, hospital, outlets, meeting rooms, amenities, and local attractions.
  • Do not perform duties other than those outlined without direct approval from a Towne Park manager.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Must complete the Wheelchair Safety Training course provided by Towne Park.
  • Must complete HIPAA Training provided by Towne Park and, if required, by the hospital.
  • One to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Internal Patient Transport experience preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to read and write standard English.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract three-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Ability to perform calculations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to understand 24-hour and military time systems.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people.
