About the Role

Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. They prepare and package instrumentation, monitor sterilization equipment, maintain records, and prepare surgical cases. Duties may also include stocking, cleaning, answering phones, transporting supplies, training peers, and providing customer service.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the decontamination, disinfection, and cleaning of various reusable surgical instruments using mechanical or handwashing methods while adhering to OSHA safety standards.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of sterilization processes and techniques (steam and chemical), including documentation, storage, and transportation.
• Understand sterilizer indicators and the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system.
• Effectively enter, modify, and search for information in the instrument tracking system.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical case preparation, correctly identifying and retrieving instruments and supplies.
• Incorporate infection control guidelines when transferring, storing, and transporting sterile packages.
• Interact with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps, for loaner tray processing and CEU receipt.
• Follow and promote industry standards and best practices supported by AAMI and AORN.
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills to meet requests from operating rooms and external clinics.
• Think critically and act quickly to meet patient needs.
• Responsible for aiding in the education and training of fellow associates.
• Focus on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties as a High Reliability Organization (HRO).

Requirements

• Associate's Degree, High School or GED (Required)
• Must exhibit strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate ability to work well with others as part of a team.
• Requires basic computer skills.
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Working knowledge of AAMI and AORN standards.
