About the Role
The Senior Retail Planner will own the financial, inventory, and allocation strategy for Green Thumb’s non-cannabis and ancillary smokeable category. This role is accountable for delivering sales, margin, and inventory productivity targets across all stores and channels, and will collaborate to identify and execute plans for end-of-life product. The Senior Retail Planner brings a data-driven perspective to assortment, vendor, and product lifecycle decisions, owning store-level allocation based on demand signals and supporting upfront bulk projections.
Responsibilities
- Build and own annual, seasonal, and monthly financial plans for the non-cannabis and ancillary category.
- Develop sales, margin, receipt, and inventory forecasts using trend analysis and predictive modeling.
- Develop open-to-buy (OTB) and ensure alignment with company financial targets and merchandising strategy.
- Drive category profitability through mix optimization, pricing strategy, and proactive markdown planning.
- Lead weekly business reviews, delivering clear and actionable insights and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Provide data-driven insights to guide assortment strategy, SKU introductions, and exits.
- Collaborate on assortment reviews to identify category gaps, white space opportunities, and emerging trends.
- Influence vendor negotiations by providing volume forecasts, sell-through expectations, and margin targets.
- Align on product lifecycle strategy, including launch quantities, replenishment cadence, and end-of-life planning.
- Ensure the assortment reflects regional demand, store clustering, and customer demographics.
- Develop and manage allocation strategies for new items, core assortment, and promotional programs.
- Build A/B/C store tiering models based on sales velocity, customer demographics, and store format.
- Maintain replenishment logic to support high in-stock rates without over-inventorying locations.
- Monitor store-level sell-through and adjust allocations dynamically in response to business performance.
- Identify underperforming stores and recommend corrective actions, including inventory rebalancing and SKU rationalization.
- Partner with retail operations to develop, refine, and implement inventory management processes.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels across distribution centers and store locations.
- Monitor aged inventory, slow-moving SKUs, and at-risk items; recommend markdowns or reallocation strategies.
- Proactively develop inventory health scorecards and action plans to mitigate risk and protect margin.
- Conduct post-mortems on promotions, product launches, and seasonal programs, translating learnings into forward-looking recommendations.
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Partner with the Buyer in weekly performance meetings to surface opportunities and optimize revenue.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of experience in retail planning, allocation, or merchandise strategy.
- Experience in high-SKU, high-velocity retail categories (CPG, convenience, accessories, or adjacent channels).
- Strong financial acumen and fluency in retail math, including OTB, margin, turn, and sell-through.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional partners—particularly Buyers—through data and clear communication.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work independently or in team environments with sound judgment and resourcefulness.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment and adapts quickly to shifting priorities.
- Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including handling sensitive business information.
- Must understand and comply with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of Green Thumb.
- Must pass any and all required background checks.
- Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry.
