About the Role
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys designing and improving automated manufacturing systems, solving complex technical challenges, and leading projects from concept through implementation. You will play a key role in the design, optimization, and support of electrical and automation systems that improve equipment reliability, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement electrical systems and automation solutions for manufacturing operations.
- Lead electrical design activities for new equipment, process improvements, and capital projects.
- Develop electrical drawings, schematics, layouts, and technical documentation using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software.
- Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLCs, HMI, and SCADA systems, including Wonderware.
- Support maintenance and production teams by troubleshooting electrical and automation issues and implementing long-term corrective solutions.
- Design and implement electrical modifications that improve equipment performance, reliability, and safety.
- Develop project scopes, technical specifications, equipment layouts, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate projects with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, and deliverables.
- Perform electrical studies, testing, and system evaluations as required.
- Maintain engineering documentation, calculations, reports, and project records.
- Recommend continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, engineering standards, and workplace safety requirements.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in industrial automation and manufacturing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) systems.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and industrial automation systems.
- Experience with Wonderware or similar HMI/SCADA platforms.
- Experience with process automation and manufacturing equipment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical design software.
- Knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and industrial standards.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause problem-solving skills.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results.
