About the Role
Weyerhaeuser is seeking a Network Administrator II to join their IT team, focusing on transforming the timber industry through technology. This role involves direct ownership of key infrastructure technologies, with an emphasis on network operations, innovation, optimization, and automation. The position requires experience in deploying, monitoring, troubleshooting, and refreshing network route/switch equipment, firewalls, and WAN equipment, along with a strong understanding of routing concepts like BGP and network models (OSI, Purdue).
Responsibilities
- Implement, manage, and maintain core components within a large-scale enterprise network.
- Focus on maintaining a secure, highly available, and highly reliable network infrastructure for both corporate and OT production environments.
- Plan, maintain, monitor, and refresh core network hardware.
- Troubleshoot reported network incidents.
- Engage with key vendors and service providers.
- Plan, maintain, and monitor core and remote site network hardware.
- Use standard monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Catalyst Center, Meraki Dashboard, etc.) to ensure network availability and eliminate configuration drift.
- Troubleshoot, configure, and operate network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, SDWAN appliances, and wireless access points.
- Follow all documented standard operating procedures in accordance with IT security policies.
- Implement and optimize network solution designs aligned with company standards.
- Follow standard procedures for deploying new network hardware and services.
- Manage and maintain network diagrams.
- Manage and maintain network asset databases.
- Contribute to the automation of network configuration and operational tasks.
- Engage with key vendors and service providers for escalation and incident resolution.
- Partner with and support the business to maintain optimal network services.
- Ensure network infrastructure is maintained and updated with applicable firmware and security updates.
- Proactively evaluate the as-is deployment for new, innovative enhancements to improve performance, security, efficiency, and cost.
- Drive to automate where opportunities are identified.
- Research the latest technologies and services that improve the overall infrastructure.
- Seek and participate in continuous learning opportunities.
- Invest in personal development to ensure continued development of relevant network skills.
Requirements
- 3+ years of practical network services experience.
- Solid understanding of the TCP/IP Networking Model.
- Solid understanding of data link concepts such as VLANs, spanning tree, 802.1q trunking, and wireless networking.
- Solid understanding of network layer concepts including dynamic routing (BGP), manipulation of inbound and outbound routing updates, and traffic engineering best practices.
- Solid understanding of transport concepts such as TCP and UDP.
- Solid understanding of encapsulation technologies including IPSEC and GRE over IPSec.
- Demonstrated understanding of application data flow on a network.
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of application-aware firewall technologies.
- Solid understanding of the fundamentals of SDWAN technologies.
- Proficient level technical knowledge and skills and a fundamental knowledge of how network technologies are integrated.
- Understanding of basic authentication and network access concepts including ISE, TACACS, Kerberos, and other AAA services.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Skilled in communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent collaboration skills in working together with others across all IT segments.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment and understanding the reliability, sensitivity, and critical requirements of network requirements and expectations.
- Skilled in solving highly complex problems and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
- Skilled understanding of IT Service Management.
- Able to apply business knowledge to develop and deliver innovative, value-added improvements.
- Proven ability to operate and effectively communicate while under pressure.
- Ability to manage a diverse workload and work under time constraints with minimal supervision.
