About the Role
The Business Development Manager will collaborate with Charter Construction's Remediation, Special Projects, and Restoration Teams to identify clients, build relationships, and steward existing relationships, ultimately helping to land projects.
Responsibilities
- Reach out to community managers, architects, consultants, and other industry professionals regularly to develop and maintain relationships.
- Identify potential projects and obtain opportunities for Charter Construction to bid or negotiate those projects.
- Track project leads and critical path information on prospects.
- Assist in writing proposals and preparing brochures as needed.
- Create and maintain a database of relevant contacts, clients, prospective clients, and business partners.
- Represent Charter Construction in Washington at industry trade shows, trade group meetings, serve on committees, and participate in relevant events.
- Identify and obtain speaking and teaching opportunities for Charter Construction leaders and Project Managers.
- Assist with developing presentations that showcase Charter’s expertise as an industry leader.
- Work with the Marketing Team to create marketing materials that are needed for assigned market segments or specific events.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Invite construction team members to share in creating relationships with prospective clients.
- Assist other Charter Construction employees in developing relationships with clients and prospective clients.
- Assist with other marketing activities as assigned.
- Assist with other Business Development activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to work with people at all levels of client companies or organizations.
- Comfortable walking into a group of strangers and building relationships.
- Strong public speaking skills and ability to design presentations.
- Creative in developing appropriate social activities to enhance business relationships.
- Articulate in conversation and explanation.
- Very good writing skills.
- Solid Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook skills.
- Demonstrated experience in building successful long-term relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people at a variety of levels in an organization.
- 5-10 years of customer relations or business development experience in a mid-sized, entrepreneurial company.
- Long sales cycle or long customer relationship experience strongly preferred.
- Willingness to put colleagues (company leaders, project managers) out in front and help them to develop presentations and relationships.
- Strong business development based strategic thinking skills—seeing the connections among different entities (prospective clients, consultants, management companies, attorneys, and other partners) and weaving them together for mutual benefit.
- Ability to authentically represent Charter Construction and our core values.
- Ability to learn enough about Charter’s work to intelligently discuss it with non-construction professionals.
- Ability to be confidential.
- Team player (work closely with Team Leaders, Operations Managers, and Director of Business Development to understand Charter Construction culture and approach to Business Development).
