About the Role
Clio is seeking a Manager, Machine Learning Engineering to lead a team in building innovative AI solutions. This role involves leveraging GenAI, LLMs, and agentic systems to streamline legal professionals' work and improve access to justice.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of ML engineers to deliver state-of-the-art AI solutions, including traditional ML, GenAI, and agentic AI.
- Guide the team in designing and shipping agentic systems, including retrieval, tool use, orchestration, and evaluation frameworks.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with MLOps engineering, product management, operations, and data science to identify new tooling for ML and LLM-driven features.
- Work in an agile environment with ML engineers, ML ops, and full stack developers on various projects.
- Learn new technologies and develop expertise as an ML and infrastructure expert.
- Participate in diverse projects and collaborate with engineering teams across three countries.
- Review and provide feedback on code from within the team and across the company.
- Collaborate with teams to diagnose, understand, and solve problems, building cross-functional solutions.
- Teach and learn from colleagues, providing and receiving constructive feedback.
Requirements
- Experience managing high-performing teams.
- Experience with technical evaluations of ML and LLM products, vendors, and out-of-the-box solutions, including proof of concepts.
- In-depth understanding of LLMs, GenAI, and the competitive landscape.
- Hands-on familiarity with building agentic systems (tool-calling agents, RAG pipelines, prompt/context design, agent behavior evaluation).
- Experience in fine-tuning foundational models and/or training language models in-house.
- Experience manipulating, cleaning, and pre-processing complex unstructured data for model development.
- Ability to quickly become fluent in new technologies and work effectively in an evolving environment with distributed teams and customers.
- Demonstrated success in mentorship in software development, particularly using Agile processes and with large-scale SaaS products.
- Diverse knowledge base to assist the team in solving complex technical problems.
- History of past projects, including successes and lessons learned.
- Clear and concise communication skills and ability to build high-trust relationships.
