About the Role
Soutron Global is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be a key technical contributor on MINISIS, a long-standing database and collection-management platform. This role offers a unique opportunity to modernize a critical cultural heritage platform while ensuring the stability of its core components. You will report to the Director of Engineering and act as a senior individual contributor and technical area owner, contributing to the existing C/C++ engine, the new backend and API layer, and the migration of desktop functionality to a modern web application. This role is ideal for someone energized by deep work on complex, mature systems and methodical modernization.
Responsibilities
- Provide codebase ownership as a senior developer and technical area owner for the MINISIS C/C++ engine, middleware, and associated components.
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering on architecture decisions.
- Maintain the stability of the existing codebase, ensuring full 64-bit capability and production readiness during modernization.
- Design and build the new document-oriented backend and REST/GraphQL API layer.
- Lead the port of desktop functionality into CAMS Online, architecting a seamless customer migration path.
- Work daily with the front-end team on architecture, data models, API contracts, and feature delivery for CAMS Online.
- Create robust, well-tested migration tools and processes for customer transitions.
- Adopt Soutron's established SDLC, Agile Scrum methodology, and code review practices.
- Produce clear architecture, API, and migration path documentation for a historically sparsely documented codebase.
Requirements
- 6+ years of production C/C++ development on Windows (Win32/Win64, multithreading, memory-mapped files).
- Experience contributing to or maintaining custom in-house database or storage engines.
- Strong Node.js/TypeScript skills.
- Proven experience shipping public-facing REST or GraphQL APIs.
- Hands-on experience with document-oriented or NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Couchbase, Elasticsearch, or similar).
- Demonstrated success migrating legacy desktop applications to modern web architectures.
- Comfort reverse-engineering large, mature, sparsely documented codebases.
- Proven experience delivering major platform migrations, including tooling, data migration, and customer transition planning.
- Proven experience working within an established Agile Scrum methodology.
- Comfortable with sprint planning, standups, story pointing, and sprint reviews.
- Experience working within a formal software development lifecycle including code review, branching strategy, CI/CD pipelines, and QA gates.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working daily alongside front-end developers and with non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation.
