About the Role

As an Interior Technical Designer, you will play a crucial role in bringing design visions to life by providing technical expertise, developing detailed drawings, and ensuring design concepts are seamlessly translated into built environments while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise, develop detailed drawings, and ensure design concepts are translated into built environments.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, interior designers, and stakeholders to develop comprehensive design solutions.
• Coordinate project team for plans, details, specifications, and material selections, ensuring design intent is incorporated into contract documents.
• Coordinate integration of basic systems into the overall project design.
• Review work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and document compliance.
• Utilize Revit and other software to produce detailed technical drawings, construction documents, and specifications.
• Understand and use firm digital tools to enhance project delivery and client needs.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather information and document existing conditions.
• Oversee BIM model creation and maintain standards for the model.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and vendors to integrate technical requirements, building codes, and regulatory standards.
• Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives.
• Produce, review, and analyze technical and contract documentation for construction compliance and quality standards.
• Provide technical support and guidance during the construction phase.
• Participate in construction administration, conduct site visits, address technical issues, and maintain quality control.
• Provide guidance on scope alignment and advice on cost savings during pricing reviews.
• Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in interior design and technical documentation.

Requirements

• Knowledge of local building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications, and construction techniques.
• Experience in construction document preparation and field observation.
• Experience in and demonstrated commitment to sustainable building practices.
• Proficiency in BIM.
• Knowledge of building codes and guidelines (ADA, FGI, etc.).
• Experience in programming, planning, and site analysis.
• Experience with preliminary design studies.
• Experience with contract documents.
• Experience with field observations and measurements.
• Knowledge of life safety requirements.
• Experience with furniture and interior product specifications.
• Experience with furniture bid packages.
• Experience with construction contract administration.
• Experience with cost estimates and calculations.
• Experience with accessibility and zoning analysis.
• Experience with documentation of Living Design data, including material health.
• Advanced knowledge of 2D/3D production software.
• Advanced Revit proficiency.
• Experience with conceptual modeling tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office / Adobe Suite.
• Experience with presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop.
• Experience with environmental analysis software such Ladybug and Climate Studio.

Education Level

• Bachelor's degree in interiors, architecture or, related discipline required
• Professional interiors licensure preferred, not required
• LEED GA within 6 months of hire
• Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation
