About the Role

Fluidstack is seeking a Director of Accounting to manage and scale its global payroll function end-to-end, encompassing both accounting and operations. This role involves building the necessary systems, processes, and team infrastructure to support a rapidly growing, globally distributed workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all jurisdictions. The position requires close partnership with Finance, Legal, HR, and the Executive team, offering high ownership in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and scale global payroll function end-to-end, spanning accounting and operations.
  • Build systems, processes, and team infrastructure for a growing, globally distributed workforce.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of payroll across every jurisdiction.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, HR, and the Executive team.
  • Manage payroll across multiple jurisdictions, including U.S. and international locations.
  • Build or significantly improve payroll processes and systems in a high-growth or scaling company.
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure payroll data integrity and support audits.
  • Stand up payroll operations in new countries or regions as the company expands internationally.
  • Manage payroll treatment for equity compensation (RSUs, stock options, ESPP).
  • Manage contractor payroll models.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • At least 3 years in a senior or leadership role overseeing multi-country payroll operations.
  • Deep expertise in payroll accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing payroll across multiple jurisdictions (U.S. required; international experience strongly preferred).
  • Knowledge of local tax, labor, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Proven track record of building or significantly improving payroll processes and systems in a high-growth or scaling company.
  • Strong proficiency with payroll platforms (e.g., Rippling, ADP, Workday, or equivalent) and HRIS integrations.
  • Experience partnering with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure payroll data integrity and support audits.
  • Experience standing up payroll operations in new countries or regions as a company expands internationally.
  • Familiarity with equity compensation payroll treatment (RSUs, stock options, ESPP).
  • Experience at a high-growth startup or technology company.
  • Exposure to employer of record (EOR) and contractor payroll models.
