About the Role
The AI/ML Engineer will support the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on multiple enterprise-level artificial intelligence initiatives. This role is intended to supplement existing Information Technology Division staff capacity and provide specialized expertise necessary to meet accelerated delivery timelines.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy components of the enterprise search solution to improve information retrieval across DPS systems.
- Assist with the configuration, rollout, and documentation of the Darwin AI inventory and monitoring system.
- Support the implementation and testing of AI agents aligned to business unit needs.
- Develop technical controls, documentation, and processes required for AI governance adoption.
- Contribute to the development of AI agents intended to improve internal efficiency and public-facing services.
- Support compliance with cybersecurity, privacy, and statewide technology policies related to AI governance.
- Collaborate with existing Information Technology Division staff to meet accelerated delivery timelines.
- Document processes and configurations related to enterprise AI initiatives.
- Coordinate with agency staff on testing and validation of AI agent functionality.
- Support ongoing monitoring activities related to the Darwin AI inventory system.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience building and deploying components of an enterprise search tool.
- 1 year of experience assisting with the configuration, rollout, and documentation of the Darwin AI inventory system.
- 1 year of experience supporting implementation and testing of AI agents aligned to business unit needs.
- 1 year of experience developing technical controls, documentation, and processes required for AI governance adoption.
- Local candidates only; must currently reside within 50 miles of the Austin, Texas work location.
- May be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
