About the Role

The Data Operations Associate is responsible for the entire data lifecycle from data preparation to reporting, recognizing the interconnected nature of data analytics and data operations. This role requires analyzing and implementing complex index methodology, solving non-routine operational problems, and interacting with S&P proprietary calculation systems. The candidate will leverage coding skills to improve the velocity, reliability, and quality of data operations and analytics. Responsibilities include selecting and weighting index constituents, maintaining indices daily, accounting for corporate actions, and managing a wide range of indices across equities, fixed income, commodities, derivatives, and real estate. The role also involves maintaining client relationships and acting as a backup to other index managers.

Responsibilities

  • Searching for, validating, and entering data into our calculation engine, ensuring ongoing data integrity.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and tools.
  • Preparing and calculating client custom indices, including performing analytical research, adjusting data in the calculation system, and ensuring conformity to index rules.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate delivery of real-time and end-of-day index data to clients and end users.
  • Maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting complex index models in Excel daily.
  • Providing customer service to existing custom index clients regarding their indices.
  • Performing quantitative analyses of index returns, weights, and constituents.
  • Managing and maintaining relationships with key members of other groups within S&P Index Services and across other S&P departments, particularly IT.

Requirements

  • Strong math knowledge and understanding of index mathematics.
  • Ability to work with complex Excel models on a daily basis.
  • Soft skills including initiative, ability to work under pressure, and communication skills.
  • Strong Math background.
  • 0 to 3 years of professional experience (internships considered, recent college graduates welcome).
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to perform daily production tasks consistently.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, work with others, and manage projects.
  • Ability to learn new data and calculation platforms in a limited time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and/or groups.
  • Experience dealing with customers in a time-sensitive demanding environment requiring persuasion and influencing skills.

Salary/Compensations

  • $90,000 to $100,000
  • Eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus
