About the Role
The City of Toronto's Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness team is seeking a Disability Management Consultant to provide direct disability management services to City divisions. You will be a key member of a team offering expertise, consultation, and advice to management on all aspects of disability management, collective agreements, policies, and procedures. This role requires a solutions-oriented leader with significant knowledge of occupational and non-occupational disability management, including short-term and long-term disability, return to work, and attendance management.
Responsibilities
- Provide consultation and advice to managers on all aspects of disability management.
- Offer consultation, interpretation, and direct human resource services for disability management, including planning, implementing, advocating, promoting, and monitoring occupational and non-occupational disability management strategies and programs.
- Manage all aspects of WSIB claims using the City's QuatroSafety system.
- Consult on the assessment of return to work processes, accommodation, and work modification needs.
- Advise management on disability matters, including return to work for injured or ill workers.
- Prepare regular summaries on the progress of occupational and non-occupational disability management.
- Act as the client division's advocate and the City's representative with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, including at WSIB and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal hearings.
- Develop and/or facilitate training programs related to Disability Management.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline (e.g., Disability Management, Accommodation Management, Human Resources, Health and Safety), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable practical experience in disability case management, workplace accommodations, and consultancy for both occupational (WSIB) and non-occupational injuries/illnesses.
- Working experience with WSIB policies, practices, and procedures, including knowledge of the WSIB and WSIAT appeals process (e.g., preparing written submissions and appearing at appeals).
- Experience in WSIB management for a Schedule 2 Employer is an asset.
- Considerable experience with data management and reporting systems for disability management, such as Quatro Safety or equivalent.
- Thorough working knowledge of obligations and requirements related to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and WSIB policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, collective agreement obligations, and sound human resources practices.
- Excellent communication and human relations skills.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent consultation skills at all levels within the organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and maintain productive working relationships with managers, employees, union officials, and external stakeholders.
