About the Role

This is a Citywide Exam posting for the Human Services Technician role. Passing the exam will place you on an eligible candidate list for future departmental hiring. The San Francisco Human Services Agency (SFHSA) is committed to supporting individuals and families in achieving their full potential through essential services.

Responsibilities

  • Transport clients to and from appointments and/or stores.
  • Observe and provide standby assistance for services and give directions.
  • Obtain and deliver approved items for clients.
  • Conduct home visits to observe, record, and report on client living conditions.
  • Report abuse, exploitation, neglect, and other threats per mandated reporting requirements.
  • Reserve and maintain City vehicles, reporting any malfunctions.
  • Attend job-related training on client-related issues.
  • Clean and disinfect items used for client transport or assistance.
  • Assist clients with completing program-related documents.
  • Pick up and deliver program-related documents.
  • Maintain confidentiality and case records.
  • Process authorized special or emergency payment requests.
  • Assist with duties for Public Guardian and Public Conservator programs.
  • Review and resolve individual providers’ timesheet issues.
  • Promote provider use of the Electronic Service Portal and Telephonic Timesheet System.
  • Train providers on timesheet completion.
  • Address and resolve CMIPS and TMS assignments.
  • Address payment issues and process requests for replacement warrants.
  • Serve as a liaison between recipients and individual providers.
  • Provide employment and wage verification for individual providers.
  • Compile documentation to process employment enrollment for new providers.
  • Conduct orientations for new individual providers.
  • Respond to calls at the Independent Provider Assistance Center (IPAC) call center.
  • Provide direct assistance to providers and recipients at the IHSS service counter.
  • Maintain client and provider case records by filing, scanning, and updating documents.
  • Perform general office duties such as photocopying, filing, scanning, answering telephones, and using computers.
  • Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner, responding appropriately to questions.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in providing services to seniors or adults with disabilities in a public or private setting.
  • Fifteen (15) semester units of coursework in child development, social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or other social or behavioral science may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.
  • Some positions may require possession of a valid California Class C driver license and a good driving record.
  • Some positions may require the ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Applicants must meet Minimum Qualification requirements by the filing deadline.
