About the Role

This is a Citywide Exam posting for the Social Work Supervisor position. Passing the exam will place you on an eligible candidate list, from which departments will hire for open positions. The San Francisco Human Services Agency is committed to providing essential services and fostering an inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the schedule and work activities of a unit involved in providing casework, client management, continuing client investigation, transportation, and processing services for programs in Adult Services, Family and Children’s Services, In-Home Supportive Services, and the Homeless Program.
• Manage the professional development of staff by participating in selection, providing training and coaching, and ongoing feedback.
• Ensure performance appraisals are used effectively and timely to develop growth plans and identify opportunities for staff to learn.
• Ensure staff’s work meets program compliance with applicable policies and procedures by reviewing completed cases and assignments, and recommending corrective action.
• Coach staff on emergency calls and crisis situations, advising on appropriate case action and problem-solving strategies.
• Handle regular consultations and unit meetings to share updates and important information.
• Attend program meetings, provide updates, and participate in program or policy improvement initiatives.
• Build collaborative relationships with staff, supervisors, other departments, professionals, and community partners.
• Respond to inquiries and referrals from staff, other departments, community organizations, and the general public.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action while maintaining confidentiality.
• Research opportunities for continuous improvement and stay up-to-date on social services policies and best practices.
• Share professional literature and training opportunities with staff and recommend improvements to unit activities.
• Prepare quantitative and narrative reports for managers and other program stakeholders.

Requirements

• Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) years (6,000 hours) of verifiable social casework or employment services experience with a public or private agency/organization.
• Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling may substitute for one year of experience.
• Additional experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years).
• Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one (1) year of experience.
• Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualification requirements by the filing deadline.
• Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.
