About the Role

Operating within a fast-paced, flexible, and dynamic team, this role involves leading a team of authorized food safety officers to deliver Camden’s statutory food safety and infectious disease functions, protecting citizens from harm resulting from unsafe food. The role requires substantial data analysis, report writing, briefing document preparation, performance management, and responding to various inquiries.

Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of a team of authorized food safety officers.
Protect citizens from harm resulting from unsafe food.
Support the development and delivery of partnership projects.
Conduct data analysis and write reports.
Prepare briefing documents.
Manage performance.
Respond to informal and formal enquiries, Member enquiries, and Freedom of Information requests.
Oversee people management of staff within the team, including HR processes and work allocation.
Provide professional support, advice, and training to officers.
Ensure service decisions comply with relevant legislation, policies, and guidance.
Take a lead role in the development and maintenance of the service’s case management systems.
Work flexibly to meet evolving service demands.
Share knowledge, experience, and responsibility for decision-making on complex issues.
Deputise or cover for team leaders and managers as appropriate.

Requirements

Meet the authorization and competency requirements set out by the Food Standards Agency Food Law Code of Practice for an Authorised Officer.
Be able to lead and manage a team of authorized food safety professionals.
Ideally meet the competency requirements set out by the Food Standards Agency Food Law Code of Practice for a Lead Food Officer.
Have excellent knowledge/understanding of the legislative framework relevant to the team and experience in its application.
Deal with a wide range of casework, including difficult and complex cases.
Resolve and deliver innovative interventions.
Have experience or capability/knowledge of working with a team of professional officers, supporting their development and managing performance to deliver service objectives.

Education Level

BSc/MSc (or equivalency) in Environmental Health; and registered by the Environmental Health Registration Board or the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health to practice as an Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner.
Higher Certificate in Food Control awarded by the Environmental Health Registration Board or the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health; or another “suitable qualification” as defined in the Food Law Code of Practice for an Authorised Officer.
Ideally holds a suitable qualification in Health and Safety enforcement such as a Diploma/Higher Certificate in Health and Safety Enforcement.
Other related qualifications including IOSH/NEBOSH Diploma may be considered.

Salary/Compensations

£50,537 - £57,583 (pay award pending)
Retention Package / Market Supplement for fully qualified officers including 7% salary enhancement
Monthly travel card allowance
£2000 new employee welcome payment
