About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the architectural evolution of the Coupa Supplier Platform (CSP), a critical system serving millions of supplier companies. You will report to the VP of Engineering and work within a nimble team focused on pioneering new approaches and driving innovation in a fast-paced, multi-cloud environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural evolution of the CSP platform, defining changes, order, and rationale.
• Set patterns for API design, microservice boundaries, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and reliability.
• Mentor engineers, guide decisions, and review architecture and code.
• Join the Architectural Steering Group to share knowledge and learn from other Principal Engineers.
• Partner with SRE on cloud-native infrastructure, including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Own security, multi-tenancy isolation, data governance, and compliance across all regions.
• Collaborate with product, design, and business teams to develop scalable supplier workflows.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience building B2B SaaS at scale, including leadership and architectural roles.
• Proven experience evolving legacy systems into microservices in a production environment with high uptime requirements.
• Deep knowledge of API-driven services, multi-tenant architectures, and B2B integration patterns.
• Solid foundation in modern deployment practices: CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience working with cloud providers such as AWS or GCP.
• Track record of mentoring teams effectively, providing direction without micromanaging.
• Strong problem-solving skills balancing scale, performance, technical debt, and feature delivery.
• Excellent communication skills to build consensus across engineering, product, and business teams.
