About the Role
The Group Underwriting department assesses risk and makes decisions for employer benefits plans, including sales, amendments, and renewals. The Underwriting Assistant supports Group Underwriters and Analysts with manual rate calculations, plan pricing analysis, and maintaining premium rates on billing systems. This role offers a potential career path for advancement within the department.
Responsibilities
- Review employee data for reasonableness and accuracy, then manipulate it for import into the ARC tool.
- Calculate manual rates for each renewal and perform analysis on the change in a group’s manual rate year over year.
- Perform on-demand manual rate calculations to respond to Plan Sponsor queries on proposed plan changes, interpreting requests and offering alternatives if ARC cannot handle them.
- Update billing systems with renewal rates and update the MIS tool.
- Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual scheduled reporting.
- Monitor the Support Team Mailbox for on-demand requests and sold renewal confirmations.
- Respond to inquiries from the field.
- Perform other related duties as applicable.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Excel.
- Ability to learn new tools and applications.
- Effective and efficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and prioritize multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
- Critical thinking skills for problem-solving and decision-making with incomplete information.
- Customer-centric approach.
- Willingness to work towards a GBA or full CEBS designation under the CEBS program.
- Reliability Status Security Clearance required (completed after offer of employment).
