About the Role

Standard Bots is seeking a Logistics & Trade Compliance Specialist to manage the import/export function, ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods. This detail-oriented role is crucial for navigating the complex regulatory and logistics landscape as the company scales its industrial robot production.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day import and export activity, coordinating with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers.
  • Prepare and review shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and export control documentation.
  • Oversee customs entries and clearance processes, resolving holds, delays, or discrepancies.
  • Track inbound shipments and proactively flag delays or disruptions.
  • Own HTS code classification for all imported components and finished goods, maintaining an accurate database.
  • Monitor tariff changes, Section 301 actions, and trade policy developments, flagging implications to leadership.
  • Identify and pursue duty mitigation strategies such as first sale valuation, tariff engineering, exclusion requests, FTZ utilization, and bonded warehouse programs.
  • Support tariff impact analysis for new product introductions and sourcing decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable import and export regulations (CBP, BIS, OFAC, ITAR/EAR).
  • Maintain and improve the trade compliance program, including classification records, denied party screening, export licenses, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Partner with legal and finance on trade compliance risk assessment and policy development.
  • Support customs audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
  • Manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers, evaluating performance and cost.
  • Analyze freight spend and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Support inbound logistics planning in coordination with supply chain and operations teams.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in import/export logistics, trade compliance, or a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience managing customs entries and HTS classification.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. customs regulations, tariff schedules, and trade compliance frameworks (CBP, BIS, OFAC, EAR).
  • Experience with HTS classification for manufactured goods, preferably mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical components.
  • Familiarity with Section 301 tariffs, duty mitigation strategies, and tariff exclusion processes.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with a strong ability to maintain clean records and catch errors.
  • Ability to document processes and actions thoroughly.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with supply chain, finance, engineering, and legal teams.
  • Experience with ITAR or EAR export control compliance for hardware or technology products is a plus.
  • Background in a manufacturing, robotics, or industrial hardware environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with free trade zone (FTZ) operations, bonded warehouses, or first sale valuation programs is a plus.
  • Experience with trade compliance software or customs management systems is a plus.
  • Customs Broker License (CBL) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is a plus.
