About the Role

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-focused Assistant Department Manager to support store operations and provide outstanding customer service to the academic community. You will ensure your area of responsibility is maintained, properly merchandised, and operationally sound.

Responsibilities

  • Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team.
  • Provide direct oversight of one or more departments or operational functions in the absence of upper management.
  • Ensure area of responsibility is maintained, properly merchandised, and operationally sound.
  • Assist in the daily operation of the store.
  • Act as the Manager-on-Duty, providing support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members.
  • Utilize analytical skills to manage day-to-day operations and make decisions.
  • Assign work and provide direction to team members to manage multiple projects.
  • Maintain a presence on the sales floor to greet customers, answer questions, and assist with purchases.
  • Maintain an appealing sales floor by tagging, shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing product.
  • Assist with processing sales transactions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
  • Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
