About the Role
The Science Internship is a part-time and seasonal position providing training opportunities for New York City students in botanical research and biodiversity collections. Interns will work with an NYBG mentor on a research, collections, or library project, gaining valuable skills and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Work with an NYBG mentor on a research, collections, or library project.
- Conduct research in areas such as plant diversity, museum curation, molecular biology, systematics, taxonomy, morphology, development, and bioinformatics.
- Work in teams and participate in enrichment activities focused on career awareness, presentations, and science communication.
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner.
- Make satisfactory progress on scientific research and carry out assigned duties.
- Adhere to all safety practices and procedures, both onsite and during online sessions if applicable.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in a high school or undergraduate degree program in NYC.
- Interest in plant science.
- Passion for learning new things.
- Good interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player.
- Responsible, punctual, professional, and self-motivated.
- Must complete safety training for laboratory research.
