About the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides administrative and clinical support to physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. This role requires a highly organized individual capable of multitasking and working efficiently across varied responsibilities, demonstrating respect and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Directs patient schedules for providers.
- Greets patients and visitors, escorting them to examination rooms.
- Schedules patient appointments and medical procedures in the EMR.
- Obtains prior authorizations for medications and completes disability paperwork.
- Ensures surgical scheduling worksheets are complete.
- Stocks and orders medical supplies, checking expiration dates.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area, ensuring examination rooms are prepared.
- Prepares rooms and equipment for office procedures and assists providers.
- Triages patient calls, assesses, plans, and documents patient issues.
- Counsels, educates, and performs patient teaching.
- Completes all required training and in-services on time.
- Assists in patient preparation for appointments, including vital signs and medication checks.
- Reviews systems and medication history with patients.
- Assesses the reason for the scheduled appointment.
- Prepares patients for examinations based on medical needs.
- Explains procedures to patients, addressing questions and concerns.
- Preps, positions, and prepares sterile fields, assisting providers.
- Ensures exam rooms are cleaned and supplies are stocked.
- Disposes of used materials and cleans contaminated surfaces after patient encounters.
- Cleans equipment and surfaces during downtime.
- Ensures all patients are discharged, exam rooms are stocked and clean, and lights are off at the end of the day.
- Maintains working knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and applies them.
- Monitors eyewash stations, refrigerator temperatures, and other office equipment per protocol.
- Prepares and administers injections as ordered by providers.
- Performs blood glucose monitoring per protocol.
- Administers specific medications and treatments as ordered by providers.
- Changes uncomplicated Foley catheters and teaches self-catheterization.
- Performs bladder scans and flow tests as directed.
- Documents all nursing interventions in the EMR.
- Reports adverse medication events to supervising providers.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited RN Program
- Current New York State License
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Thorough knowledge in computer information systems.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
