About the Role

The Atlantic is seeking a creative, fast-moving producer to execute its video strategy and reimagine journalism beyond print. This role involves end-to-end production, pitching ideas, scripting, filming, and editing. The producer will focus on high-impact, social-first video, manage multiple projects, and deliver on deadline, comfortable with various video styles and working both in-office and in the field. The ideal candidate is excited about The Atlantic's mission, has an experimental spirit, and seeks to connect new audiences. This position also includes general audience duties, newsroom collaboration, and occasional night/weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end production of short- and mid-form videos for a social-first audience, including pitching, scripting, filming, and editing with high sophistication and quality at a competitive pace.
  • Collaborate with writers and editors to translate journalism into video formats.
  • Contribute to The Atlantic’s video strategy, including visual design, workflows, distribution, and innovation.
  • Train newsroom staff on video best practices, equipment usage, on-camera presence, and editing workflows.
  • Write copy for videos on social platforms, focusing on clarity, engagement, editorial excellence, and SEO.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience filming and editing digital/social video, preferably for a media organization.
  • Experience working with cameras, lighting equipment, gimbals, and microphones in studios and in the field.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, script, and execute high-level video pitches and projects.
  • Ability to juggle quick-turn video needs and longer-range feature projects.
  • Ability to generate and lead social conversations across a wide range of topics.
  • Highly collaborative and energized by a fast-paced news environment.
  • Competitive spirit and a desire to grow audiences through social video.
  • Ability to tailor videos for diverse social media platforms and audiences.
  • Demonstrable record of innovation in video concept, format, and execution.
  • Strong writing skills, and excellent news and editorial judgment.
  • Media and social media fluency.
  • Keen eye for design.
  • Ability to collect and analyze video performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with working with branded design portfolios.
  • Submit links to three relevant clips with application, indicating level of involvement.

Skills

  • Fluency in Adobe PremierePro, AfterEffects, or equivalent programs.
