About the Role
National Grid's Global Procurement function is seeking a Senior Buyer to develop and implement robust Category Strategies. This role involves engaging with stakeholders to understand business needs and supply chains to offer optimal solutions. You will be part of the US & UK global procurement team, contributing to Net Zero targets. This is a global role requiring international travel and is ideal for candidates with procurement, commercial, or contract management experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage global suppliers.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage contracts end-to-end.
- Identify risks early, implement mitigation plans, and maximize opportunities to drive value.
- Strengthen relationships, influence external stakeholders, and enhance National Grid’s reputation.
- Act as a role model for procurement standards, mentoring Buyers and Associate Buyers.
- Serve as the commercial lead on supplier contracts, providing expert commercial leadership.
- Build, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships with suppliers and contractors.
- Partner with and coach suppliers to encourage new market entrants and support equipment availability.
- Lead the implementation of Supplier and Contractor Performance Management processes.
- Monitor contract delivery, report on performance, and analyze KPIs and contract data.
- Escalate issues as required.
Requirements
- Procurement experience within large similar organizations.
- Experience of strategic sourcing and category management.
- Understanding of project management principles and experience managing multiple projects.
- Experience of contract development, negotiating, and managing supplier contractual arrangements.
- Ability to make recommendations and amendments to existing contracts and draft new ones.
- Ability to manage stakeholder communications independently at all levels.
- Ability to build and manage complex commercial assessment models.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading and influencing a large, devolved team.
- Experience leading procurement activities for civil construction projects is beneficial.
- Must have the ability to work without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
