About the Role

Meta is seeking an Optical Deployment Engineer to deploy and support one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in projects related to the implementation and scaling of Meta's optical network. The ideal candidate will have experience adapting to evolving network architectures, identifying process improvements, and developing practical solutions to operational challenges. This role encourages proposing new ideas, gathering feedback, and driving them to completion.

Responsibilities

Deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production optical network spanning ULH terrestrial, regional metros, and subsea networks, interconnecting data centers and POP sites across EMEA.
Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership during deployment activities.
Collaborate with vendors to evaluate new hardware/software and create optical standards for network deployment.
Review acceptance documents from vendors and subcontractors deploying equipment.
Plan, schedule, and perform network maintenance, repair, and upgrade tasks.
Work closely with Network Engineering, Logistics, vendors, and fiber providers for seamless introduction of new optical technologies.
Provide technical expertise to network provisioning engineers for troubleshooting out-of-service or faulty circuits.
Create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for metro, regional, long-haul DWDM systems, and Subsea SLTE systems.
Proactively contribute to documentation, automation, and process evolution.
This role will involve some pre-planned travel from time to time.

Requirements

Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying optical networks.
Experience with optical network design, installation, and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks.
Experience with field-based work on POPs, carrier hotels, data centers, and central office environments.
Proven experience leading and executing optical network deployment and migration projects.
Experience interacting with vendors and external parties to drive projects to timely completion.
Experience creating rack elevations and other planned/install/as-built documentation.
Knowledge of data center design and deployment best practices.
Understanding of DCN Networks.
Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies, and the operation of optical transport systems.
Experience with optical test equipment and optical troubleshooting using OTDR, BERT, and optical power meters.
