About the Role
The purpose of this role is to deliver goods efficiently and courteously, ensuring they arrive in full, on time, and in good condition while taking all precautions to avoid damage or delay.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and tidy appearance at all times.
- Wear provided staff uniform and name tag.
- Perform daily walk-around checks to ensure vehicles are mechanically sound, clean, and roadworthy.
- Never operate a vehicle on public roads if it is not in a roadworthy condition.
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance during transit in case of accidents or breakdowns.
- Promptly report any vehicle problems to the Transport Supervisor.
- Immediately report any accidents to the Transport Supervisor.
- Be familiar with Company procedures for accidents.
- Report any delays or accidents to the Traffic Office.
- Immediately report any changes to driving licence points and provide a new photocopy to the Transport Manager.
- Do not use company vehicles for private use.
- Check all items for delivery before loading and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Load own vehicle.
- Safely secure heavy loads and large goods for transport.
- Deliver goods according to instructions, noting special customer requirements.
- Drive carefully and considerately towards other road users.
- Avoid driving in bus lanes, breaking speed limits, blocking restricted junctions, or parking illegally where reasonably avoidable.
- Avoid receiving parking tickets whenever possible.
- Prevent breakages during loading/unloading, unsafe stacking, or due to driving manner.
- Use internal straps to secure products when necessary.
- Keep the company mobile phone switched on for messages and observe the Hands-Free Policy.
- Always be polite and helpful to the customer.
- Immediately communicate customer problems or queries to the Transport Manager and seek instructions.
- Obtain a signed Proof of Delivery from the customer.
- Immediately notify Transport Supervisors or Planners of any frozen returns and await instructions.
- Report to Transport Supervisors at the end of the day.
- Ensure Driver Tacho Cards are downloaded daily.
- Complete a Returned Goods sheet for all returned items and place them with the goods in the Returns Area.
- Assist in the warehouse as instructed by the Transport Supervisor or Transport Manager.
- Collaborate with the Technical Department regarding Food Safety, Legality, and Hygiene matters.
- Comply with and enforce company policies and procedures for food quality/safety checks and paperwork.
- Adhere to good storage and distribution processes.
- Ensure compliance with Driver's Hours Regulation and Road Safety Regulation.
- Ensure compliance with the Working Time Directive Regulation.
- Maintain full records of work, rest, and driving activity using logbooks or digital tachograph cards (HGV Applicable).
- Immediately report any legality breaches to the Transport Manager.
- Immediately notify the Transport Manager of any points endorsed on your license, even if related to offenses in personal vehicles.
