About the Role

Advise clients on data protection, AI governance, AML compliance, and technology law within a fast-growing law firm. This role offers genuine ownership of complex matters and a clear path to partnership, working directly with senior client executives.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on embedding privacy by design into product development, generative AI deployment, and advanced analytics.
  • Guide clients through the design and implementation of responsible AI frameworks.
  • Advise clients on AML/CTF obligations, transaction monitoring frameworks, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Guide clients through data subject rights frameworks, Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), and global privacy laws.
  • Lead clients through data breaches, crisis remediation, and regulatory notifications.
  • Draft and negotiate data processing agreements (DPAs) and technology vendor contracts.
  • Translate complex legal and regulatory risk into actionable advice for clients.
  • Contribute to practice group growth through thought leadership, client pitches, and business development.

Requirements

  • 8+ years PQE gained at a top-tier or specialist firm.
  • A recognized law degree.
  • Current admission to practice (Australian practising certificate or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience advising on AI governance and/or AML/financial crime compliance, alongside data protection and technology transactions.
  • Strong commercial instincts and confidence to advise sophisticated clients directly.
