About the Role

HCF is establishing a dedicated Line 2 Risk Assurance function and seeks a leader to shape, design, and embed this capability. This role involves creating the framework, methodology, and approach for the function, providing independent Line 2 assurance, and assessing risk management and control effectiveness. You will collaborate with senior leaders to strengthen risk practices and enhance control environments, leading a team of two Risk Assurance professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Shape, design, and embed HCF's new Risk Assurance function.
  • Partner with leaders across the business to strengthen risk, controls, and outcomes.
  • Provide independent Line 2 assurance to assess risk identification, management, and control effectiveness.
  • Ensure regulatory obligations are met.
  • Strengthen risk management practices and enhance control environments.
  • Drive better business outcomes across HCF.
  • Lead and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Support team development and excellence in assurance delivery.
  • Drive improvement and influence positive change.
  • Partner with stakeholders to strengthen risk and control environments.
  • Lead assurance reviews and assess the effectiveness of risk management and control environments.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop others.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years' experience in risk assurance, controls assurance, internal audit, or a related discipline within the Australian financial services industry.
  • Strong knowledge of APRA prudential standards, including CPS 230, and broader regulatory requirements such as FAR and ASIC obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, enhancing, or implementing assurance frameworks, methodologies, or assurance programs within complex organisations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and build trusted relationships with senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience within a Big 4 or leading professional services environment will be highly regarded.
  • Experience implementing or enhancing assurance frameworks, programs, or methodologies.
  • Commercially minded and highly collaborative.
  • Confident providing independent challenge and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the business.
  • Enjoy working through complexity, bringing people on the journey and turning strategic objectives into practical outcomes.
