About the Role
The Underwriting Governance Manager is responsible for the integrity, consistency, and control of underwriting documentation and practices across Canadian and US operations. This role owns policy document libraries, oversees the monthly underwriting exception process, and helps shape Standard Operating Procedures and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Own all policy forms, including applications, endorsements, policies, and indexes for Canada and the US.
- Maintain and format the manuscript library.
- Maintain the underwriting guidelines library on the shared drive and SharePoint.
- Update underwriting authority letters as required.
- Ensure all forms are implemented into Enterprise and notify the Enterprise team of any new, modified, or retired documents.
- Work with the Marketing team to review all Specialty Insurance documents for consistency and formatting.
- Maintain the document library for marketing forms in both English and French.
- Provide general support to the VP, Product Development on formatting for new policy wordings and endorsements.
- Manage the monthly underwriting exception report, including reviewing flagged exceptions, resolving items, and escalating matters.
- Support the SVP, Specialty Insurance with the periodic review and implementation of departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines.
- Work closely with the VP Product Leaders on the annual Best Practice Review, reporting key findings to SVP, Specialty Insurance.
- Act as a business partner between the Specialty Insurance department and the Internal Audit function.
- Provide support and back-up to the Internal Audit team as requested.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in Underwriting, Underwriting Control, or an Underwriting Support function.
- Proficiency with document formatting and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, SharePoint).
- Experience with policy administration systems such as Enterprise is an asset.
