About the Role
Lead daily operations at Hunts Point Terminal Market, build partnerships to facilitate food movement, and shape program strategy for growth. This role requires strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day operations at Hunts Point Terminal Market, ensuring efficient logistics, high-quality food handling, and reliable service.
- Manage scheduling, workflow, food quality control, and inventory.
- Ensure program compliance with food safety and operational standards.
- Participate in hands-on tasks including sorting, loading, coordinating logistics, and operating warehouse equipment.
- Develop and execute plans to strengthen and expand the Bronx program.
- Track goals, identify operational gaps, and implement solutions.
- Contribute to shaping and scaling new initiatives to expand reach.
- Supervise and support program staff through coaching, feedback, and performance guidance.
- Partner with the Operations Manager to train the team on procedures, food safety, and best practices.
- Foster a positive, mission-aligned team culture.
- Build and maintain relationships with market vendors, receiving-agency partners, donors, and community organizations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders, ensuring consistent and responsive communication.
- Represent Sharing Excess at community events, coalition meetings, and partner engagements.
- Identify and cultivate new partnerships to expand capacity, donor base, and community impact.
- Collaborate with the Development team on grant writing, donor stewardship, and funder reporting for the Bronx program.
- Partner with CPO, COO, CEO/Founder, HR, and Operations, Logistics & Distribution teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years in program management, operations, food distribution, or a related field.
- Nonprofit or food-sector experience is a strong plus.
- Proven ability to lead staff and volunteers in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of logistics, inventory management, and food safety.
- Experience in strategy setting, goal definition, and metrics tracking.
- Ability to support fundraising through grants, partnerships, and donor relations.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proactive, solutions-first approach to problem-solving.
- Comfort with digital tools including Google Workspace, CRMs, apps, and internal tracking systems.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks in a warehouse or market setting.
- Passion for reducing food waste and advancing food security.
- Ability to lead with clarity and compassion.
- Capacity to balance big-picture planning with hands-on execution.
- Skill in building trust with partners and community members.
- Resilience to remain steady as the program grows and changes.
