About the Role

Shrub Oak International School (SOIS) is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support our mission of providing unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family-centric, supportive environment. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff by managing HR functions in alignment with the school's values and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee compliance and documentation for new hires, including paperwork, background screenings, and pre-employment testing.
  • Manage ongoing compliance tracking and administration for all staff, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain and audit HRIS systems for accurate data management.
  • Maintain and audit driving records and documentation for employee driver eligibility.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations, including addressing complaints, mediating disputes, overseeing development plans, and managing terminations.
  • Lead investigations related to employee concerns or grievances.
  • Guide employees through leave of absence processes, including filing, tracking, and return-to-work procedures.
  • Provide open-door support to employees, offering guidance on performance improvement and career development.
  • Advise the management team on compliance with federal, state, and local unemployment laws and recommend HR best practices.
  • Conduct stay and exit interviews, compile trending data, and communicate findings to leadership to inform retention strategies.
  • Partner with the HR Manager to develop and implement policies and training programs.
  • Administer and track FMLA, PFL, and leave of absence programs.
  • Handle worker’s compensation claims and assist in managing associated processes.
  • Support OSHA compliance and tracking.
  • Assist with various HR-related projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, business administration, or a related field (or college degree in progress with 4+ relevant work experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an HR Generalist with a degree.
  • 2+ years of onboarding and training experience.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience with FMLA, PFL, and Leave of Absence administration.
  • Employee relations experience, including handling complaints, investigations, terminations, and corrective action oversight.
  • Understanding of benefit enrollment and tracking.
  • Developing training materials and communications preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to pass a DMV abstract screening.
  • Experience in a school, educational, or residential setting (specifically with children, such as an autism-focused or special education environment is a plus).
  • HRIS (Human Resources Information System) proficiency.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of or experience working in therapeutic and residential settings for children with autism or other developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass, and gravel.
  • Must complete Mandated Reporter Training, PPE training, and Sexual Harassment Training.

  • $65,000 - $68,000 annually
