About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, enterprise-grade backend systems. You will contribute to cloud-native solutions, evolve microservices platforms, and translate complex business requirements into reliable technical outcomes while driving engineering excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design high-level and detailed system architectures using microservices, event-driven systems, and domain-driven design.
- Develop clean, maintainable, production-grade applications using Java 11+ and Spring Boot.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs, microservices, and asynchronous event-driven integrations.
- Design and operate distributed systems in cloud environments, with a preference for Azure.
- Implement messaging, streaming, and publish/subscribe patterns for enterprise integrations.
- Collaborate with Product, QA, Architecture, and UX teams in Agile Scrum environments.
- Lead technical delivery initiatives, conduct code reviews, and mentor fellow engineers.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot to improve efficiency and code quality.
- Design, automate, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
- Support containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Champion automated testing strategies using JUnit, Mockito, SpringBoot Test, and Test containers.
- Promote observability, reliability, and performance through monitoring and operational best practices.
- Align technical solutions with business priorities through effective stakeholder communication.
- Manage project timelines through collaboration and feedback loops.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience; Master's degree preferred.
- 6+ years of professional software development experience building and operating enterprise Java applications.
- Expert knowledge of Java 11+ and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security).
- Strong experience with microservices architectures, distributed systems, and event-driven design patterns.
- Experience across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Strong knowledge of SQL, relational databases, ORM strategies, and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native engineering in Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Maven/Gradle, and Azure DevOps.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile Scrum practices.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as New Relic, Splunk, or Datadog.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, mentoring, and leadership skills.

- Typical hiring range: $64,000 – $85,000 CAD
