About the Role

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is seeking a Mechanic in Austin, TX to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Stadler GTW 2/6 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) passenger rail vehicle mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete vendor-supplied training courses related to DMU vehicle systems.
  • Assist with DMU testing and acceptance program.
  • Assist vendors in repairing the DMU during the warranty period.
  • Assist in setting up the DMU Maintenance Shop.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and test DMU systems and equipment.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagnosis.
  • Document warranty data according to client policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all safety, operating, and maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment to complete repairs in a timely manner.
  • Provide passenger service support to minimize service delays.
  • Perform re-railing operations as required.
  • Work outdoors in inclement weather as needed.
  • Maintain small tool equipment.
  • Work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Utilize the client supplied MMIS system as required.
  • Work at any time of the day or night as assigned.
  • Engage in Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Diesel and/or Locomotive Mechanical background is a plus.
  • Two to five years of verifiable mechanical and/or electrical work experience.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of chain of custody concepts with regards to parts issuance and distribution.
  • Prior rail maintenance experience is highly desirable.
  • Able to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Able to use various software programs as required.
  • Work in close proximity to moving vehicles.
  • Maintain a satisfactory employment record.
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
  • Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
  • Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
  • Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
  • Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently climb on/off equipment.
  • Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
  • Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
  • Be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises.
  • Adapt to various temperature extremes including heat, cold, moisture, and wind.
  • Work in a safety-sensitive work environment.
  • Successfully pass color/vision examinations as required.
  • Able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required.
