About the Role

As a Technical Underwriting Specialist, you’ll work closely with underwriters, brokers and Portfolio and Distribution teams to solve complex problems and profitably grow our CGU and WFI Agri and Personal Lines portfolios. This role is energised by balancing technical depth with real-world relationship building, offering an opportunity to grow your craft, develop go-to-market strategies, and help others lift their underwriting capability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical underwriting guidance across Agri and Personal Lines, helping teams navigate complex referrals, escalations and decision-making with confidence.
  • Build capability by coaching and supporting underwriters, strengthening quality, consistency and alignment to underwriting frameworks.
  • Develop go-to-market Underwriting strategies which enable growth with brokers and WFI authorised representatives.
  • Resolve complex underwriting tasks and create opportunities to support portfolio performance and growth.
  • Contribute expertise to pricing, product, claims and portfolio teams, offering market insights that enhance risk selection and customer outcomes.
  • Represent underwriting in internal and external forums, sharing specialist knowledge and translating complexity into practical direction.
  • Support reviews, audits and large-loss analysis, identifying improvement opportunities and helping embed changes into underwriting practice.

Requirements

  • Strong underwriting experience with confidence handling automated platform line insurance risks.
  • A strong understanding of commodity line insurance products in particular Home, Motor and Farm package risks.
  • Strong financial acumen and data analysis skills to develop business cases and strategies to win.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships in a market facing capacity with, brokers and AR networks.
  • Curiosity and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to explore detail and offer clear, practical guidance.
  • Comfort balancing technical depth with market-facing work and collaborative engagement.
  • A growth mindset focused on capability uplift, continuous learning and constructive challenge.
  • Clear communication skills, able to translate complex issues into simple, actionable steps.
  • Experience leading project initiatives end to end.
